Ujima

Writer: Tolson FamilyTolson Family

Day 3: Dec 28

Principle: Ujima - Collective works and responsibility

Symbol: Alomar ntoaso (Adinkra symbol of shared effort and obligation)

Candle: Green

"To build and maintain our community together and to make our Brother's and Sister's problems, our problems and to solve them together."

This principle assigns, to us, great responsibility for the achievements and accomplishments (as well as the challenges and struggles) of not only ourselves, as individuals, but our family and communities as a unit.

Ujima acknowledges that without teamwork the dream will never work.

Everything is a learning experience that we should all gain something from. We are all but a water droplet in the ocean that is the Black and Brown diaspora.

"We...recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which only asks what's in it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a freedom without love or charity or duty... is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in defense." ~B.Obama

Each piece of the puzzle fits into the big picture
